Mellow
Mellow
Mellow was one of the first lizards I ever had. I received her, along with Darter, on Christmas of 1994. I loved her, even up until the day that she died in 1997.
Mellow was, as the name appropriately suggests, mellow. She wasn't this way by illness or choice. When she was young, she lost her left hand. All she had was a stub *well, also, she was probably about five years old*. So, she was accustomed to not running too much, which led to her being the P.R. *Public Relations; 70's phrase* for the cage--just like Camillo. I remember that, one Thanksgiving, my cousin and I went into the basement to watch "Rocco's Modern Life" on Nickelodeon. So I took Mellow with me so we could just hang out together. Needless to say, we got caught up in the show. When commercials came, my attention turned to her. Much to our surprise, she had disappeared. My cousin and I looked all over for her. About ten minutes later, we found her on the wall behind us, just hanging around. She, Darter, and Speedy had actually inspired a book or two of mine. Then again, I was in second and fourth grade, so they weren't much about which to brag. Still, it's nice to know I loved them then, too.
It's nice to know that one of the creatures I loved loved me back.
