Our Daily Journal

"Dear Diary: I met the CUTEST boy today! His name is Camillo! I already know a lot about him. He usually has a pretty dark brown complexion, but he can be green, too! Also, his favorite food is crickets. *And just between you and me, he's REALLY good at doing push ups O:-) tee hee hee*"

07/04/02: Happy Fourth of July! Well, this is Nicknole again. However, I am not communicating from my own home. Our computer has taken a sudden turn for the worse. It will only operate in "safe" mode, which means no new pictures for a while, and absolutely no internet. Caranole has allowed me to access the page through her computer. My parents are working on it, but it'll be a while. While here, I have managed to update the Photo Gallery, so check that out. More pics and everything. And the Lizards of the Past page is also done. Speedy and Lacerta have been added. Kinda depressing, but still... Also, my parents and I are going up to Chicago to meet some Romanian teens from our sister church *in Romania, of all places!*, so we're leaving the crickets in the steady hands of my sister and her husband. Well, they should be fine; I mean, they can flip two light switches in the correct order... right? Fortunately, her husband would be willing to put crickets in the cage if they run out. We'll only be gone for the weekend, so it won't be that bad. However, that also means I won't be updating the page for a while. Anyway, to the anoles. Both Cammy and Dezzy shed their skin... somewhere near the end of June. They've been very green recently. Cammy is growing; I wish I could take pictures! Her snout is a little longer, so I know she's growing. They're both a bit bigger. Also, I *well, my DAD got them for me, because I was away when we ran out of crickets; Caranole's house, y'know* got Speck's crickets this time. No offense, but Petsmart crickets come in two sizes: too big *barely fit in their mouths* and too small *not even worth the 7 cents each they cost; don't fill the anoles up*. Remember how sickly Cammy was when we first got her? Well, her legs are now nice and plump, as is her abdomen, and... well, just about every part of her body. Dezzy, meanwhile, is starting to show his age. Almost every time I come near the cage, he shows his dewlap at me He's saying "leave my girlfriend alone!" Yes, Caranole. Anyway, I think he's just getting older. They've definitely grown accustomed to their habitat; if they hadn't, then they would be brown constantly! Caranole, meanwhile, is preparing for babies. She bought a large cage accessory *which I refer to as a "playground"* for the cage she will be purchasing. She came to the Petsmart near my house and found a 25-gallon cage for $22. I saw some green anole eggs at an Uncle Bill's pet store *the one in Greenwood, IN*, so I now know what to look for. I found some vermiculite that claims it is completely digestible, so it doesn't cause problems with digestion. I don't know if this is true. I'm going to look into it. Wish me luck! Well, it's now the fifth of July, so I'd probably better be heading to bed. G'night, Cammy and Dezzy. Sleep well, my children. Don't let Linde *my sister* whine too much! See ya soon! Nicknole out.

07/18/02: Hey Caranole here. Nicknole's computer has been broken all month! So i'm here to give you the latest updates. Most of what i type is Nicknole's doing, but i'm typing it so i'll use my color! Nicknole is communicating with me on the phone. This is time to update for all this month! Since i won't get another chance for a few weeks. BTW: This weekend Nicknoles friend, TOM, will be taking care of the anoles while we visit Nicknoles winey sister and THE GOUGE. Anyway, (me talking not him right now) YESTERDAY i sent Nicknole to the library to do reasearch on anoles. He found out TONS of good information. He got a book to read stuff in, but he also found a totally awesome website w/ great info! So for all you that care click here is the website. We are now totally sure that Cammy is a girl. We also think that Cammy might be carrying eggs. We HOPE Cammy is carrying eggs. Alrighty, now its time to tell ya about things that have already happened. Here's Nicknoles words.

07/13/02: On Sunday, my family and I returned from Chicago. On the way back, we stopped at Speck's and bought two dozen crickets. Okay, I bought two dozen crickets. While there, I happened to pass by a mother that was looking to buy ball python and a girl that had a green anole. *She was getting crickets too* She named the anole CoCoa. *Bad sign* Dezzy shed his skin on Tuesday. He was exausted afterwards, but he's okay. He just had the "chick broke out of the egg so it's tired" syndrome. (Cara waits to get the phone back) (Cara gets the phone back) While cleaning the garage Friday night, I found the basking lamp for which i had been searching for quite some time now. Yay. (you sound so enthused) Um... Just a second... Okay. Cammy has been green all week. If she's been brown, it's been only a slight shade. She's also getting pretty plump. Every now and then i suspect that she's pregnant. :-P Then again she hasn't been puking up any crickets. Today we discovered that they are green when the temperature is in the 90's. Maybe i'll bring back the sixty watt bulb. Until then, i'm just putting both the lights on at the same time. I had to turn the night light off every once in awhile, but its an okay system for right now. Actually with both lights on the ceiling fan going, and the air conditioning vent open, its staying at an even 90's degrees. Dezzy's green: Cammy's basking. To quote Marth Stewart "its a good thing". In Nicknole news, I am out of health class with an A. It's sad to see everyone gone, but it was fun while it lasted. Now i just have the driving part of Drivers Education. That will end... Friday July 19th. (Tomorrow!) Um... After drivers ed is over, Caranole and I will be going down to Tennessee to go see my sister and her husband. In otherwards, we need a pet sssisstter. Um... Uh.. If it were just a weekend i wouldn't care, but it will be four days. Since they eat about three crickets a day, i would have to leave a dozen crickets in there for the entire weekend. We put them in a crickets before, they didn't like it. (Sorry little guys!) I figure my best bet is to call TOM, to come over twice a day and get the light and check the crickets and just make sure they're still alive. (If there not, i know where you live TOM!!!) I will also ask him to write down notes every day. They're turning into pigs. lol. right now they have one cricket left, and he's missing a hind leg. Dezzy must have gotten the other one. (Why not Cammy?) The one-legger has been arguing with the second to last surviver (I'm a surviver, i'm a dork, like a stupid roommate i will not mentionWHAT) over a hiding spot underneath the tree. Now the hiding spot is taken. I'm not in too much of a hurry; the anoles look pretty full. they're probabbly kind of tired from all the running around they did this morning. Right now they're basking trying to digest all the cricket guts. Dezzy's laughing at me. He's been showing off his dulap a lot, now that my computer's offline. Cammy's in on it too. Just last night i caught her with a cricket in her mouth, but the computer camera is down. There are so many pictures that i'd love to get.(You were supposed to send me those pics b4 ur computer broke!) However the computer can't handel anything more than word, pinball, and saying "i'm sorry dave, i cannot do that". My dad has a digital camera, but i think its at his work. If he would bring it home, i could use it. Well, i won't be able to add pictures to this computer for awhile now anyway. I tried opening some, and there all this splotches grey. Its amazing how much they've grown, it scares me to think they can get much bigger. Then again, the biggest part right now its their stomaches. *As i said, their pigs.* Nicknole Out.

(Yay i'm done typing now! I skipped lunch to do this for Nick! Caranole here now. I have to go to the dermatologist now! Peace N' Luv!!!! P.S. Everything in the (parenthases) () is mine! Caranoles comments!. Anyway, talk to ya later! Peace N' Luv: Caranole.

7/27/02: Ladies and gentlemen. Boys and girls of... mostly the same age. NICKNOLE IS BACK!!! Well, anyway, there's a lot of stuff that I wrote down *or typed up, if you're optimistic*, and it's all here. It's really exciting, and... well, it involves sexing the anoles, having a possibly-pregnant anole, and... well, that's about it, but it's still kewl. Check it out. Well, on to today's news. Since I have a lot of spare time today, I switched the vermiculite to a bigger container, which can hold the base of the tree. Somewhere, I read that a female anole will only lay eggs at the base of her mate's plant. Thus, Cammy *sorry for spoiling it, but it was pretty obvious* can now lay her eggs. Aso, I have added on to the cricket cage. I took an empty toilet paper roll and placed it in there. They've loved it. Also, I decided to formalize their food. I took the lid from the calcium dust *I check the container everyday, just to see if there's something in it, etc.; nothing yet!* and filled it with cricket food. It works really well. Since the computer is back up, I've been taking pictures of the anoles. I'll work on them as soon as I can and put them in the Picture Gallery. Speaking of the PG, I'm going to add on to it today. In case you haven't noticed, I'm officially on summer vacation and have lots of free time today. Well, for now, Nicknole out.
