May 2002

"Dear Diary: I met the CUTEST boy today! His name is Camillo! I already know a lot about him. He usually has a pretty dark brown complexion, but he can be green, too! Also, his favorite food is crickets. *And just between you and me, he's REALLY good at doing push ups O:-) tee hee hee*"

05-14-02: My mom took me to Petsmart today. I purchased a fern/palm thing attached to a half-log for $9.99 (for basking) and a mushroom thing for $12.99 (basking and hiding from heat).
*~Mental Note~* I need to check back there for the thermometers for $1.99 and a new cage lid. Also, the dripper-feeder thingy (drops water into cage) for $6.99 and (possibly) a new carpet for the cage.

05-15-02:Hey! I'm updating this site for the first time ever. Amazing yes, because I am Cara. I can't wait until we get the anoles! Mine is going to be named Desdemona, as you have probably already figured. There's a chance we might get them next weekend. I haven't even seen the cage yet or anything! I hope its perfect for them when we get it. Well I have to go now. - Cara

05-17-02: I have great news! Up until now, I have had to depend on my 10-gallon cage or my 15-gallon cage (which has a crack in one side) for Camillo and Desdemona. However, my friend, Erica, has a cousin who is possibly selling his cage. The cage has a built-in light on top, a deluxe lid (which means it has a door[s] on the lid), and is in very good condition. Oh, did I mention that, according to her, it is about 5 feet tall!? Also, according to her description, it is a (now, I may be wrong; I may be a freshman in geometry, but i still screw up on math) 60-GALLON CAGE!!!!! Now, I may be wrong, but still, the description of it is promising. Even if it is smaller than she said, it is still the perfect shape *tall* for two anoles. She will try to get the cage for a cheaper price than what he is usually asking, and then sell it to me. I will probably have to save up quite a bit of money for it, but it will be worth it. Wish me luck!

05-22-02: Alright, I have news on the cage; good AND bad. Bad: I will only get it if Erica's cousin and his girlfriend don't get together and stay together in the next month or two. Good: Erica's cousin and his girlfriend are on-and-off, but don't stay together long. Also, the price is set for how much Erica will charge me out of the $100 that her cousin is getting: $25. And, I was wrong about how big it is. I thought it was 60"x10"x10". It is actually 70"x18-20"x18-20", and thus somewhere between 100-120 gallons. In other words, Camillo and Desdemona will love their cage when they get it. Just thought that was worth mentioning.

05-25-02: WE GOT THE ANOLES!!!!! Finally we have a reason for having a page on the internet! We got them yesterday at Petzmart. When we finally found someone who had a brain, he helped us catch our two anoles. Cammy (Camillo) was the first one we got. Nick picked him out because he was lively. If ya wanna know more go to (NICK YOU NEED TO PUT A LINK HERE). Dezzy (Desdemona) was the second one. At that time i was holding the cage that had Cammy in it, so I didn't get much say in who Dezzy was. But of course i have the most wonderful Dezzy!!!! To find out more about my Dezzy, go to (NICK PUT ANOTHER LINK HERE!). Right now she is FINALLY happy, well fed, and asleep between two leafs. We were really worried when we came up here because we couldn't find her. They have addapted to their cage well! I absolutly LOVE that they are SO happy!!! All i want is my little dezzy to be happy! anyway i'll go away and let nick tell you the boring details that this website is for. PEACE AND LOVE. Y'know, cara, you can stop calling me boring any time now. Anyway, last night, dessy (it's spelled DEZZY! with Z's!) *it's not my fault! I was typing from the side; i can't type in the rocking chair! that's what u get when you take my typing chair!... anyway...* ate 2 crickets *maybe 3; we don't know who ate the third; we just came up and it dissappeared*, and cammy ate both the crickets we put in this morning. His second one gave him a chase, but he got it *even though it was about as big as his head, which is not a good thing for an anole*. (8:40 PM) It's their beddy-bye time. Okay, official beddy-bye time--so what if Dezzy's been asleep for hours? It hasn't been beddy-bye time till now, so there! Anyway, the light is going off now. Good night, my babies. Sleep well, for tomorrow is a whole 'nother day! Sleep tight; don't let the bedbugs bite without eating them whole!

5/27/02: I was away yesterday, but my dad seemed to take pretty good care of Cammy and Dezzy. We need to look around for a lower wattage light; 60 watts is way too much. I have managed, however, to put the light into a lamp and put it above the cage, for the time being. This is not a permanent solution, but it will have to do for now. I will look around for a 40- or 50-watt bulb as soon as I can. Alright, I have big news. I went downstairs to clean out the "Hang-out Spot" (the small cage that the couple stays in while the Nursery is being cleaned). When I came back up, I found one anole bobbing its head and jumping at the other. At first, I thought "Well, I guess eggs will be made soon." When I looked closer, I noticed that it was Desdemona that was attacking Cammy! She went on displaying her dewlap for about five to ten minutes, then calmed down. This is weird, because they usually get along very well and are very close to one another *not by lack of places to hide or bask, mind you; they are greener when together*. I'm guessing that it was just an argument. They seem to be over it now, as they are currently sleeping together under a leaf. *chuckle* Relationships, eh? :-p. Oh, before I forget--yesterday, two crickets disappeared, and the carpet is sealed. In other words, they got hungry. That's good, as I was worried about them, since they didn't eat on Saturday. Okay, I'm officially done now. NOTE: I got a second opinion, and it seems that, to quote my advisor, "'Tis the season to be sneezin'." Apparently, females will try to attract a mate just as males will. Wow; Dezzy is Cara's daughter. And Cammy is my son, too; close to a girl at a relatively young age, and he eats a lot *he just caught a cricket*. Oh, and thanks to Dragon Master of Green Anole Discussion Forum for the help!

5/28/02: I washed the cage today. It needed a washing, and it looks much better now. I wasn't sure if any crickets had escaped underneath the carpet; I checked, and they were all gone. I put in a total of... Let's see, 3 on Friday, 2 on Saturday, 3 on Sunday, 2 on Monday, 2 today... twelve crickets *with two left (Speck's made me pay for a dozen, and some of mine have died; lol); I need to go cricket-shopping tonight* in the space of five days. Wow. Well, that's really not a lot. About seven crickets each in five days. Still, that means that I'm going to be busy with my cricket buying. Then again, they are pretty young; they probably just need all the energy they can get. Anyway, I put two more crickets in this afternoon, then when I came back up, the crickets were gone. So I put two more in when I came back. Camillo loves to be held. Dezzy can't stand it. Cammy doesn't like the chase too much, but once he gets on your hand, he doesn't want to let go. Alright, now some sad news. Mark, Erica's cousin, was in a car accident and died this weekend. Erica told me that she would still get the cage for me *I said that she didn't have to, but she insisted*. I won't try to express the grief that her family is going through. I will only say that I hope life will go on as it was before this happened. As I said, Cammy loves to be held. He is currently getting greener on the back of my hand as I type. Okay, on the back of my arm. Lol. Anyway, this is Nicknole, signing out. NOTE: Speck's is out of crickets. They should be getting their shipment in tomorrow. I would have gone to Petsmart, but it's pouring rain, and so I needed to get home. We still have crickets left, and they've been eating heavily this weekend. They should be fine for a day. I have good news, though. Speck's has the kind of light we need--a 40 watt bulb! However, since I am low on money, I was unable to buy it. However, when we go to Speck's tomorrow for crickets, I will bring the money for it. Okay, how did that cricket get out? It was probably when I was putting Camillo in or out when I was holding him. Or when I was putting Dezzy back in *she took a while*. Anyway, everything will be a lot better for everyone when I get the new bulb. Until then, we'll make do with what we have *a stupid 60-watt bulb that gets the cage too hot because it's stupid*. Again, Nicknole signing out.

5/31/02: Sorry it took so long to get back here. My dad was using the computer on Wednesday, so I couldn't update the site that we got 2-dozen crickets and a 40-watt light bulb! This makes it easier to leave them alone when I go to school--mainly because I don't worry as much about them! Then again, it doesn't really matter much that I can leave them here while i'm at school. Y'know why? Because... SCHOOOOOOOL'S OUT FOR SUMMER!!!... Okay, then. Yes, I'm out of school. Enough of that and back to the anoles. I've been talking with people, and I think I know why they keep displaying their dewlaps *well, okay, it's only Dezzy, but Cammy would if he could!*. They're probably just new to the whole territorial/flirting scene, and they're just trying it out. Then again, they may actually be flirting. Then again, maybe Dezzy does want to kill Cammy. That's the thing with anoles--you can tell if they're happy, sad, angry, or... whatever else they may be; you just can't tell why. Again, Nicknole out *oh, and before I forget-- 3 crickets yesterday and 2 today; I bought 24, and I now have 22; TAKE THAT, SPECK'S!... not that I'm complaining... :-p*

Want to go back without the help of the stupid "Back" button on your browser that never works because it's a stupid piece of sh- *manager: "Nick, calm down"* Oh, sorry. Anyway, to go back, click your heels one time. *see? We're more energy efficient than Dorothy's stupid shoes! :-p*
