Future Plans
We get bored easily. Thus, we're always thinking of things to do. Here's what we are planning at the moment.
Cammy is now gravid. She is currently making one egg. Thus, we will begin building a new cage for the hatchlings as soon as possible.
The new cage will be made mostly of wood with hinged plexiglass doors in the front. It will be 6'x 2.5'x 2' *HxWxL, that is*. In other words, it will be taller than me *and I'm pretty tall!*. There will be two three-foot doors, which will close magnetically, like a home entertainment system. It will have a 15-watt Reptisun 5.0 fluorescent light for UV rays and a ceramic heat emitter *surrounded by screen for protection, of course* for heat. I will drill holes in the back and glue fake leaf stems into them so they will have something to climb on. I will also cut into the right and left sides of the wood and cover it with screen, thus creating a vent to encourage air flow. Currently, I am planning to line the bottom of the cage with sphagnum moss, just for a soft and natural feel. However, I may switch to potting soil. Whichever it ends up being should work well.
I'm thinking of setting up a waterfall-type system. I would set the "ground" *the one that the animals would see* on top of a screen cube-type thing. I would have a pool of water inside the screen with a water pump pushing it up until it reaches the top of the cage, where it would be funneled into a water-coaster-type thing. It would channel the water around the cage until it finally wound up going through the screen and back into the water reserve, where it would pass through a filter and be shot back up through the tube. The thing I like about this is that, if an anole or a cricket gets caught in the waterfall, it will just slide down until it lands on soft moss. Plus, this lets the moss be watered and increases humidity tremendously.
